23/10/2020The Minister of Livestock Fisheries and Animal Industries has received 165 pregnant heifers from the montbeliarde breed.
The ceremony took place on the 2nd of October 2020 at the Garoua International airport.
The arrival of the first batch of dairy cows to Cameroon is the first of its kind.It is based on the premise that a country should attempt to reduce its foreign dependency through the local production of industrialised products. It will also reinforce production capacity of milk and dairy products as well as improve nutrition.
The 165 pregnant heifers from the montbeliarde breed are a relatively large continental breed. They weigh nearly 700 kg.
Their milk is widely celebrated due to its high protein content. The average montbeliarde cow produces 6000 kg of milk per lactation.
